Steve McElvene, a University of Dayton basketball standout, died today while he was back in his home town giving a speech to at-risk youth about the importance of staying on the right path. “Big Steve” was only 20 years old and was a rising sophomre who had already made great strides on the basketball court. He was an instrumental part in helping the Dayton Flyers reach the 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
As a freshman, Steve had already set school records in blocks and was well on his way to setting a career high at the University of Dayton.
As is usually the case with tragic and unexpected deaths such as this, details are still coming in. A cause of death has not yet been given, but journalists are speculating that it might have been because of an “enlarged heart.” He collapsed while he was at home.
