The annual Met Gala, the Superbowl of the fashion world, will be held on Monday, May 2 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. About 650 to 700 guests are expected to attend, with A-listers ranging from Beyoncé, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rihanna to Kim and Kanye West. This year’s theme is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.
“Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made,” Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, told Vogue when the theme was announced in October. “But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.”
E! will cover the event via its special, Live from the Red Carpet. The red carpet pre-show will air at 7 p.m., followed by red carpet fashion at 7:30 p.m. The actual gala will not be televised.
