Game Of Thrones Recap: Season 6, Episode 1 Must-See Review

Game Of Thrones 6th season premiered on HBO on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 9PM EST. Following the events of the season 5 finale (Jon Snow’s death and the impending White Walkers) anticipation for the show premiere was at an all time high. The episode, entitled “The Red Woman” was the 51st episode of GoT, and was directed by Jeremy Podeswa, and written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. It was preceded by the season 5 finale episode “Mother’s Mercy”, and will be followed by next week’s episode “Home”.

Game Of Thrones Season 6 Episode 1 Recap for “The Red Woman”

HBO, man. Boy, do they know how to work an audience.
After the season 5 finale last year where Jon Snow was clearly stabbed to death, everyone was quick to point out the fact that Melisandre, AKA The Red Woman, had just arrived at the wall. Melisandre, of course, possess the magic of resurrection, which is incredibly convenient for the fate of our favorite Knights Watchmen. So what does HBO do? They decide to name the season 6 premiere after her. Not only that, but the first sentence in the episode description is “Jon Snow’s fate is revealed. And it was. For all the idiots in the room, this is a RECAP so obviously SPOILERS ARE AHEAD. Now, let’s get to it:
(Editors Note: This is a college website, so this review was written as I sat in a room with my 7 other college roommates. The reactions, opinions, and knowledge – or lack thereof – are both very collective, and very genuine. The quotes are live reactions- word for word.)
“The Red Woman” opens with Sir Davos finding Jon Snow’s body. Melisdanre comes in the room. Obviously.

“She already tried banging Jon Snow once. Once she revives him, he’ll totally owe her one.”

The Knight’s Watch debate goes down about how stupid it was to kill Jon Snow. Cut back to Sir Davos, where suggests that those loyal to Jon Snow enlist in the Wildlings help. Now off to Winterfell, where Ramsay Baratheon finds out about death of his girl, and then mourns by feeding her to his wolves. Freak.

“Dude is the worst. He his scene to perv ratio is a 10/10.”

Sansa and Reeeeek are on the run, until they get caught, because Reek and Sansa both suck. They look pretty screwed, until Brienne of Tarth and Podrick come out of nowhere to save her.

“Podrick’s the boy too. People are literally starving and prostitutes let him smash for free.”

Brienne pledges to Sansa again, which she actually accepts this time, which means … Podrick is a Stark!!! Cut to the Lannister’s, where Marcella Lannister is obvsiously dead AF, and it’s honestly great to see Cersei take another L. Does anyone like her?

“Cersei’s new haircut makes her bitchface even more bitchy.”

Now we head to Dorne where the Martell’s are just causally pulling a mutiny. Tristain eats a spear. Tyrion tells that bald dude Veros for having no unit, and honestly we love that they’re are boys. Two of the biggest schemers in the land. Cut to Jorah where our biggest question is, how TF does he find Daneryus’ ring?

“You’re gonna tell me my dude saw her fly north on a dragon and he can find her in ring in the middle of the wilderness but I can’t find my wallet in the morning?”

Cut to the Dothrakis were Daneryus is dropping her 20 word long name on people, which someone finally sh*ts on her for. Surprise, surprise: Ayra Stark is as blind as Marcella Lannister is dead. She gets her ass kicked by that other faceless trainee, then gets invited back to that weird Faceless god place. Back to Castle Black, where the Knight’s Mutineer’s  Watch, gives Davos and company until night fall to surrender. Davos, like the perpetual G he is, denies. Cut Melisandre’s room and aaaayeeee she’s is taking it off yesss! But noooooo! She’s oldddd now! Oh god! What does this mean for Jon Snow?

Oh no! Old box! I’m convinced Thrones is looking for new ways to gross people out.

That was crazy. What a premiere. Check back next week for our COED review.
