Kobe Bryant‘s last game will take place Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 10:30 PM EST on ESPN2.
In the third-to-last game of his storied career, Kobe Bryant nearly matched his age in points on Sunday, scoring 35 points in a 130-110 loss to the Houston Rockets. For his final game, the Lakers plan to bring in about 30 of Bryant’s former teammates, with commitments including Shaquille O’Neal, Robert Horry, Rick Fox, Ron Harper, DJ Mbenga and Adam Morrison.
It is being reported that this game is expected to have the same atmosphere of an NBA finals game. According to a Lakers publicist, “The game is going to be a ‘zircus’ — a zoo and a circus,” and that “the amount of reporters at the game is absolutely unprecedented for a regular season game.” Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea will play the national anthem Jimi Hendrix-style and then there will be a tribute video a few minutes long.
Bryant entered the NBA directly from high school, and he has played for the Lakers his entire career, winning five NBA championships. Bryant is an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team. He has led the league in scoring twice, and he ranks third on both the league’s all-time regular season scoring and all-time postseason scoring lists. After beginning his 20th season with the Lakers in 2015–16, which set an NBA record for the most seasons with the same team, Bryant announced that he would retire after the season.
