An Iraqi militant group is getting major attention after setting up an Instagram account that calls on the opinion of their followers to determine the fate of captured ISIS members.
The group goes by the name Iraqi Swat (or Iraq Special Operation Force1) and posts photos of captured ISIS fighters to their account, then asks followers to vote if they should kill the person or let them go. Users have an hour to respond to the photos before a final decision is made.
While the account has been up for a few months now (Instagram has shut down numerous accounts in the past), it didn’t start garnering much attention until yesterday when the below image went viral on Imgur:
The photo amassed a ton of comments, and everyone seemed to agree on the outcome:
The group did wind up killing the person pictured, although it looks like Instagram took down the original post, which shows the man’s dead body. However, the original photo can still be found on Imgur.
It remains unclear as to what the group actually is — a special forces group supported by the Iraqi government or a rogue militia fighting ISIS on their own — but what is clear is how crazy the whole thing is. The account is pretty intense and now has over 84,000 followers. With a bio that reads “No mercy for ISIS,” we can’t say we’re surprised.
