Your friends use their feeds to show you the life they want to have, and you spend your time scrolling through the life they want you to see. Meet Bombd, an Australian app that recently opened offices in Venice Beach, CA., changing the photoshopped face of social networking. The concept is pretty simple: Instead of randomly posting content to be shared and seen by everyone, users “bomb” other users with requests for photos and content.
But here’s the real kicker: When someone receives a “bomb,” he/she has three hours to trigger it before it expires. And once it’s triggered? The user’s camera automatically launches and he/she has seven seconds to take a badass photo.
No retakes. No filters. No edits.

It’s taking off, too. In the first three weeks, Bombd has registered more than 11,000 users (significantly more than Snapchat’s first couple weeks) and generated more than 60,000 Bombd requests. Here are the nine reasons why people have started to bomb:
1. You can step up your group message.
• You can set up “squads” in the app for you and a couple of friends. Someone not responding in the group text? Collectively bomb ‘em. Can’t figure out where the party’s at? Request a bomb from your crew.
• You can also play group games. For example, some people have used Bombd as a photo competition among friends. May the best bomb win.

2. Say goodbye to “wyd.”
• Instead of asking someone what’s up, you can simply request a photo of what they’re doing right then and there. Easy.
3. You could become BOMBDfamous.
• If you start receiving an insane number of Bombd requests, you’ll start trending on the app. You profile will then be recommended to other users.

4. You can hold onto moments forever… or delete them whenever you want.
• Embarrassed after the bomb? Delete it. Think that shit’s gold? Keep it in the app forever. It’s up to you!
5. Bomb your favorite event hosts.
• Sometimes, it’s difficult to find the best party (and trust that’s it’s just as wild as your friends’ Instagrams make it seem), but Bombd makes it easy to request photos from anywhere. So, about to come through? Wanna see if the party’s fly? Bomb someone for an immediate update.
6. Take your flirting to level 100.
• Bombd is a casual way to request interaction with people. That means you can “bomb” the new guy/girl you met at the bar and avoid coming off as desperate or needy. It’s a way to start the conversation and show interest—without sending something yourself.

7. It’ll be harder for friends to “forget” to respond.
• If a user receives a bomb request, that user will also get notifications—reminding them when the bomb expires and if they have or have not responded.
