Benjamin D. Clague, a bus driver for the Iowa State University CyRide transportation system, was arrested for the hit and run of ISU student Emmalee Jacobs. Emmalee Jacobs, a freshman business student, was killed by the accident.
Here’s the tragic scene as described by the Iowa State Daily:
Jacobs was struck at 7:04 a.m. Dec. 14 as she was walking from Buchanan Hall to campus for her final. An Iowa State University police officer found the 18-year-old lying in the road. She was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center, where she later died.

After weeks of investigation and reviews of dashcam footage, police determined that a CyRide bus had been responsible for the death. CyRide staff had been cooperating fully with the investigation. It was only today that Benjamin Clague was arrested. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death, a class D felony and failure to obey a traffic control device, a simple misdemeanor.
It is believed that Benjamin, 23-years-old, was the only person present on the bus when it allegedly hit and killed Emmalee.
