Joshua Woods, a former homeless man from Kansas, recently defied the odds and graduated from college.
After losing both of his parents young, Woods spent the majority of his childhood in foster care. Unfortunately he couldn’t catch a break at school either; he was constantly being worn down by teachers who told him that he would never amount to anything in his life. With encouragement like that, it’s astounding that Woods didn’t give up completely. Somehow, he persevered.
After being homeless for an extensive period of time and living on his sister’s floor, Woods had just $30 left to his name. Instead of spending the money on food or other living necessary supplies, Wood used the cash on a student application for Wichita State University.
Three weeks after applying, he found out that he got in.
Shortly after, he got a job and – because he didn’t have a car – began running to school in order to make his classes. In December he graduated from Wichita State with a bachelor’s degree.
“It was hard to hold my tears as I walked across that stage,” Woods said. “To be considered stupid all your life and you graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree… I don’t know about anyone else, but it was a triumph for me.”
So, in short: your excuses for failure are officially worthless. If this doesn’t motivate you, I don’t know what will.
