Anytime one of the more minor bowls can get a ten-win team, they are very happy. The GoDaddy Bowl has to feel that way about having the 10-3 Bowling Green Falcons playing the 8-4 Georgia Southern Eagles on December 23 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile. Bowling Green will bring one of the best offenses in all of college football to the game during an old-fashioned contrast of two styles.
The Falcons won the MAC championship with a 34-14 win over Northern Illinois. Matt Johnson passed for 4,700 yards, 43 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season while looking for Roger Lewis early and often. Lewis had 82 catches for 1,476 yards and 15 touchdowns. Travis Greene added even more punch to the Bowling Green offense with his 1,219 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the year. This is a team averaging 561 yards of offense per game and 43.4 points but struggles on defense some.
The Eagles lost two of their last three games including a 34-7 loss at home to Georgia State to end the regular season. Georgia Southern runs the ball a ton. Matt Breida led the team in rushing with 1,540 yards on the ground and 16 touchdowns while quarterback Kevin Ellison had just 84 passing attempts all season while throwing for 532 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions. BJ Johnson had 15 catches for 243 yards to lead the receivers while Georgia Southern does throw. Which style wins? Running or passing?
