The college football bowl season will get underway this weekend with the first game coming with the New Mexico Bowl as the 7-5 New Mexico Lobos will get to stay home for this bowl game as they face the 6-6 Arizona Wildcats. There are two teams that had much higher expectations for themselves coming into the season but never reached them.
Arizona will have had nearly a full month off before this game with their last game coming on Nov. 21 in a 52-37 loss to Arizona State. Anu Solomon has thrown for 2,338 yards, 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions for the season while looking the direction of Cayleb Jones a lot with 51 catches for 722 yards and four touchdowns. The ground game has been led by Nick Wilson, who has 725 yards on the ground to go with eight touchdowns.
New Mexico beat Air Force 47-35 on Nov. 28 in their season finale. Lamar Jordan hasn’t thrown the ball much but leads the team with 935 passing yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions. Dameon Gamblin has 33 catches for 397 yards and two touchdowns in the receiving game while Jhurell Pressley has 846 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. The Lobos defense has a challenge on their hands with a talented Wildcats offense but Arizona has trouble stopping people themselves. This is bound to be a wild game.
