The Iowa Hawkeyes have been having a season to remember in 2015 and entered Saturday’s Big Ten game at home against the Maryland Terrapins at 7-0 for the season. No. 10-ranked Iowa had no issues as they held the Terrapins scoreless until the fourth quarter, got three first-half touchdowns from three different running backs and scored a 31-15 win to improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Maryland falls to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play. (Photo by Matthew Holst/Getty Images)
It started late in the first quarter on an one-yard run by LeShun Daniels Jr. followed by a Akrum Wadley run from 11 yards out midway through the second quarter before a two-yard plunge from Derrick Mitchell Jr. with just nine seconds to go in the first half. Maryland would finally get on the board early in the fourth quarter on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Perry Hills to Taivon Jacobs but it was all Iowa’s day.
C.J. Beathard went just 12-for-23 passing for 183 yards but the defense of the Hawkeyes did enough to overcome the subpar outing. Wadley finished with 67 yards rushing on 19 carries for Iowa, who will play at Indiana next week. Hills finished 11-for-22 passing for only 74 yards and three interceptions but did run for 104 yards on 19 carries in the loss for Maryland, who will host Wisconsin next week.
