With college football in full swing, we’re celebrating one of the most important factors of the game – the cheerleaders. Each week we’ll introduce you to a new collegiate cheerleader to get your head in the game.
This week, meet Peyton from Texas Christian University – a sophomore cheerleader majoring in Strategic Communications, and originally from Frisco, Texas. Get to know her a bit better below.
• How did you choose your school?
I chose TCU for several reasons, first of those being that I fell in love with the campus as soon as I saw it! TCU is considered a smaller private University, so the academic rigors are challenging, the professors are accessible and want to help their students, and the class sizes are smaller which is perfect for me. I also like that it’s only an hour away from home so I am still close to my family. Lastly, the cheer program was a big factor for me when making my decision of where to attend college. The TCU Spirit program and coaches made me feel at home immediately, and I love that TCU spirit focuses on “game day” and supporting all of TCU’s sports, events and traditions.
• Was it easy to adjust to cheering in college?
It’s been a big, but extremely exciting, transition and adjustment for me. I consider cheering at TCU one of the biggest privileges I’ve ever been blessed with.
• Which game are you most excited for this year?
Probably TCU vs. Baylor! It will be our last regular season game and best of all it’s a home game at TCU. We’re huge rivals so it’s always a highly anticipated game!
• How busy does cheerleading keep you?
Cheerleading has always kept me very busy and still does in college! I was a competitive cheerleader for 12 years at Cheer Athletics, 4 of those being on CA’s senior large coed level 5 Worlds team, Cheetahs. The TCU Cheer squads practice 4+ hours per week in addition to supporting all of the athletics programs, charity events and making personal appearances. So yes while it does keep me busy, I wouldn’t have it any other way and I’m thankful for every second of it!
• Are you involved in any extracurricular activities besides cheerleading?
I am a new member of the TCU chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha and am also looking into the different Christian organizations offered on campus to find the best one for me!
