Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka has been charged with the murder of former girlfriend Nancy Argentino who died 32 years ago. Lehigh County, PA officials announced today that the WWF Hall of Fame wrestler will be charged with 3rd-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.
Jimmy, now 72-years-old, is already under custody and was arrested at his home in New Jersey this afternoon. He’s been booked and his bail has been set at $100,000.
So what’s the story with what happened? Obviously nothing is official but here’s what Uproxx has to say about the incident between the married man and his girlfriend:
On May 10, 1983, a few hours after a WWF TV taping at the Lehigh County Agricultural Hall in Allentown, Snuka placed a call for an ambulance. When an emergency arrived at the former George Washington Motor Lodge in Whitehall Township, PA, they found that Argentino had been injured and transported her to Allentown’s Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she died. The cause of death was “undetermined craniocerebral injuries,” and a coroner’s report explained that she’d suffered “traumatic brain injuries consistent with a moving head striking a stationary object.” She was also covered in cuts and bruises, which caused the coroner to notify the district attorney with suspicions of foul play. In a September 1, 2015, press conference, DA Jim Martin revealed that Argentino had a skull fracture, 39 contusions and abrasions. He also cited a previous incident in New York, when Snuka was seen dragging Argentino by her hair, saying it took “several deputies” to get control of him.
As you can tell, the evidence was definitely not in Jimmy’s favor, and it’s unbelievable that the case would have been dropped–which it was.
However, the case wasn’t completely closed and Nancy’s family even won a $500,000 default judgement against Jimmy. The former wrestler said he was unable to pay, and has allegedly not done so. Jimmy would go on to write in his 2012 biography that blame for Nancy’s death ruined his life.
