Man Dies After Trying To Stop Suicide at University of Hawaii Dorm

Two men plummeted from the 14th floor of a University of Hawaii dormitory, after one man – who wound up dying – tried saving his friend from a fatal suicide attempt.
The 24-year-old man who lost his life was apparently trying to coerce a severely distressed 19-year-old back inside, after he went out through a window and onto a ledge early Sunday. He is currently in critical condition.
Neither were University of Hawaii students; both were apparently guests of a student having a party.
School spokesperson Dan Meisenzahl released a statement saying, “It’s a terrible tragedy – the last thing we want to happen … whether they are students or not… Of course, our condolences go out to their friends and family.”
The school year has yet to officially begin, but it’s already off to a pretty bleak start.
