The NFL & Twitter have signed a new multi-year deal, expanding the National Football League’s presence on social media. AP is reporting that the deal is two years long.
Since 2013, the two companies have worked together through the Twitter Amplify program, where partners can capture and share key moments from games across the social media network. This program has been particularly helpful in keeping some users from going elsewhere (Tumblr, Reddit) to find great GIFs and highlights of games.
Twitter’s new multi-year deal with the NFL will mean “significantly more” content posted by the NFL throughout the year, including top plays, game recaps and archival video. They’re expecting to funnel up to three times the amount of content they published last year.
In return for the extra content, Twitter will use an automated formula to display more NFL tweets and ads in their users timeline.
Although the deal is only a reported two years long, this is the first time that any of Amplify’s partners have signed a multi-year deal.
Twitter users can expect to start seeing this new partnership as early as this Thursday’s preseason games, giving both parties an opportunity to learn how to best work together.
