It’s a good thing that we have a new Seth Rogen/Joseph Gordon-Levitt comedy to open this week’s movie trailer roundup–because all of our other offerings are kind of grim. Not in the sense of being a bad selection, but there sure aren’t many feel-good movies coming out after the summer season.
We’ve already looked at Michael Bay’s stealth war drama 13 Hours, but here’s a fun Christmas movie–followed by movies that really won’t work on date night…
The Night Before
As noted, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen team up again after 50/50–along with Anthony Mackie taking a break from playing The Falcon–as old pals having their annual Christmas Eve reunion. That’s usually a traditional night of craziness, which can sure work that way in New York City. But now the aging trio is determined to break into the Nutcracka Ball. That’s the Holy Grail of Christmas parties, which seems to involve Miley Cyrus and karaoke…

The 33
This one has a happy ending, and that’s no spoiler. A lot of people already remember when rescue workers spent weeks trying to save 33 Chilean miners trapped underground by thousands of feet of rock. This should still make for a grueling watch. At least Antonio Banderas can be happy that he’s starring in a decent production after some lean years….

And let’s not forget to enjoy some terrorized kids in the hottest film to come out of Austria in a while. Twin boys who are very close encounter some real weirdness after their mother comes home to recover from reconstructive surgery–and they begin to wonder who’s really under those bandages…..
