It’s one thing to say that beer tastes like piss, it’s another thing altogether to make piss beer. Enter Roskilde Music Festival, a Danish rock and roll music festival that’s looking to change the world as we know it.
The process is called Beercycling, and it’s actually not as bad as it sounds. The Roskilde Festival (which ended last weekend) captured the urine of 2015 festival goers and will ship it out to farmers who will use it as fertilizer for their barley. That same barley will be used to brew the beer for the 2017 festival.
The whole idea started as a method of taking the strain off of the sewage treatment plants in Roskilde. Now it also gives 2015 festivalgoers a reason to come back in 2017 to see what they helped create. In the photo above, you can see the sign explaining why troughs are out in the open.
