We don’t always do box office reports, but this weekend got pretty interesting–mostly because way too many people think that Terminator Genisys was a big bomb. Also, way too many people think there’s a colon in the title, but that’s another story. Anyway, it’s true that the latest entry in the Terminator franchise didn’t do really well in Ameria. It settled into the #3 spot at $44.2 million for the long holiday weekend, safely behind Jurassic World and Inside Out.
But check out that international box office, and see why Arnold Schwarzenegger is smiling. Terminator Genisys is sitting at the top of the world when it comes to drawing in the big bucks. It’s the film’s second week in international release, and still brought in $74 million bucks. Now you can expect that after-credits sequence to pay off with yet another Terminator coming to your multiplex.
Not that we’re defending Terminator Genisys. It’s painfully apparent that a big chunk of the movie got left on the cutting room floor. People are still trying to figure out what the hell Matt Smith was even doing in the movie. We just don’t like the idea of people thinking that Schwarzenegger is having a bad weekend.
And you can be happy for Chris Pratt, too. Jurassic World knocked out Avengers: Age Of Ultron as the 5th biggest international movie ever. That should last until all the titles get taken down a notch in December with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Yeah, you better like sequels and franchises.
