Creator of the pink plastic lawn flamingo, Don Featherstone, has died at the age of 79 in an elder care home after battling dementia. Donald Featherstone famously known for creating the iconic American lawn symbol created the plastic bird piece back in 1957 while working at plastics company Union Products. Since then, millions of timeless pink flamingos have sold all across the world.
Featherstone is survived by his wife, two children, four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. But that’s not the only thing carrying on the Featherstone tradition. Don’s invention spawned the flabongo, one of the best party accessories ever created.
Hundreds of thousands of partiers will be drinking to the memory of Don and his invention for many summers to come.
