One of the biggest questions following the season finale of Game of Thrones was, “Did Lena Headley really strip down for that final naked scene?” No she didn’t–Lena used a body double named Rebecca Van Cleave, an up-and-coming actress who until this point hadn’t done any nude scenes before this.
Headey decided to keep her privates private so that she could focus on the emotion of the scene. That meant Lena would walk through the streets in a beige suit, leaving Rebecca to be the one who who walked through the city streets naked. Producers then superimposed Lena’s head (not very well) on Rebecca’s body in post production.
Here’s a section from an interview Rebecca did with Entertainment Weekly in which she describes the now-infamous scene.
“It was one of the scariest, most wonderful, most gratifying experiences I could have imagined. I never in a million years would have thought I would be in Dubrovnik surrounded by hundreds of extras and crew members throwing food at me, but it was amazing.”
It’s been quite a year for Game of Thrones body doubles. First Rosie Mac (Daenerys Targaryen’s body double) and now Rebecca.
