Red Sox Beat Yankees 6-5…At 2:13 AM After 19 Innings

The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium last night, and it only took 19 innings–so we sure hope that you didn’t tell your girlfriend that you’d meet up with her at the club as soon as the game was over. She probably went home with Leonardo DiCaprio. [photo: Elsa/Getty]
Of course, as  you can tell by the seats in the background of the above photo, a lot of baseball fans also gave up and went home early. Yeah. “Baseball fans.” The real MVPs are the people supporting either team who stayed until the bitter end–as seen above, when Mookie Betts put everyone out of their misery by driving in the winning run at 2:13 am.
Also, there were probably people who’d already looked up on Google that this was the longest game (by innings) for the Yankees since August of 1976, when they had a 19-inning win over Minnesota. The longest a Yankees game had ever gone against Boston was a 20-inning win for New York in the second game of a 1967 doubleheader. So there’s a record that’s still waiting to be broken.
The remaining fans, incidentally, left the stadium in the Bronx at what was probably closer to 2:30 am. The Yankees should’ve handed out complimentary bats to all of them. We’ve been in the Bronx at 2:30 am.
