Big 12 Conference Looking At Changes After Missing Playoffs

Big 12 Conference

The final college football playoff rankings came out on Sunday afternoon with Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon and Florida State making the new four-team playoff. That left TCU and Baylor–with the Big 12 co-championships–on the outside looking in. This is forcing the conference to look into changes to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again. During an interview on ESPN, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said “it’s clear we were penalized for not having a postseason championship game. It would have been nice to have been told that ahead of time.” While Bowlsby has a point, the conference needed to name one championship and Baylor beat TCU on the field. The conference decided to just name co-champions.
There has been talk about a conference championship game but the conference would need to add two more teams to make that happen. Bowlsby has a lot of work to do to fix this especially now that his two 11-1 teams won’t get to be in the playoff. There may be no doubt that Bowlsby will be looking to have an eight-team playoff in college football sooner than later though.
