Todd Gurley's Insurance Doubled By Georgia Before ACL Injury

Georgia running back Todd Gurley returned from a four-game suspension on Saturday to play against Auburn. In the process, Gurley tore his ACL and will miss the rest of the season. That normally would be the big part of the story, but now we’re learning that Georgia upped Gurley’s insurance policy to $10 million in coverage within the last two weeks. [photo: Kevin C. Cox/Getty]
Did the university know something was about to happen and then doubled the insurance on Gurley? That seems a tad bit odd to say the least. However, it does mean that Gurley has the insurance if he is not able to play again or slipped in the draft. $5 million of the insurance would kick in if Gurley injured himself and slid on draft boards which could easily happen now.
It is very possible that Gurley is going to end up with $5 million of that policy since it is unlikely that any NFL team is going to draft him in the first round now especially coming off an ACL injury. The Bulldogs will have to figure out how to play the rest of the season now knowing that Gurley isn’t returning at all but at least the player is taken care of for the future.
