10 Great Dumb Comedies That Wouldn’t Exist Without "Dumb and Dumber"

Dumb and Dumber ignited a revolution when the movie came out in 1994. It was a magnificently stupid revolution, too. The surprise blockbuster from first-time directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly launched Jim Carrey to mega-stardom and invented an endlessly rich film genre. Specifically, that would be films about incredibly stupid nice guys embarking on adventures where it only helps to lack some brainpower.
Whether these movies’ heroes are naturally knuckleheaded or just stoned, the genre of Low IQ Comedy has been looming large in the annals of guy cinema. We’re not saying that Dumb and Dumber invented that high concept, of course. It’s no coincidence that the Farrelly Brothers went on to make a 2012 tribute to the comic genius of the original Three Stooges.
Now we have Dumb and Dumber To opening this week, and it’s a surprisingly impressive reunion for the stars and creators of the beloved classic.
