Every fan of Purdue men’s basketball knows all about the hair of former coach Gene Keady. Keady spoke with the Indianapolis Star recently and talked about getting rid of the comb over and going bald–and discovering that he had skin cancer in the process. The famous hairstyle would cost Keady $600 a week with the hair extensions and hair dye. [photo: Jonathan Daniel–AllSport/Getty]
There is a point in time where fans will forget all about Keady and what he did at Purdue but will never forget the hairdo and how a stiff breeze could have probably made Keady look like Ernie McCracken from “Kingpin”. However when Keady’s wife had him go bald, the cancer was discovered which will ultimately be his saving grace for still being here.
The oddest thing about the interview is that Keady actually had a personal hairdresser. That person obviously liked Purdue instead of Indiana basketball or Keady’s hair could have been a major disaster. The Purdue community will always love Keady and his hair and now the full story about it has come out. A story about a man, his comb over and continuing life.
