Bruce Campbell is returning to play Ash in a new Evil Dead cable series, and the timing couldn’t have been better. We were watching that Evil Dead remake over the weekend and pondering how much more time we had to see Bruce Campbell kicking undead ass in an Evil Dead project. Now it’s time to haul out all of the great Evil Dead cliches while celebrating this new project…
Ahem: Bruce Campbell will be back with his boom stick for some sweet pillow talk on the Starz cable network, so hail to the king and get ready for some groovy demon-killing in Ash vs. Evil Dead.
Yeah, that was pretty hackstastic. Anyway, the new Starz series sounds like producer Sam Raimi has gotten the dreariness of that Evil Dead remake out of his system. This new show will star Campbell as Ash Williams with a weird new twist. It seems that Ash has become kind of a burnout who still runs around with a chainsaw on his hand and mainly rehashes his old glories. Here’s how the official press release describes it:
Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons–personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
Sam Raimi is also directing the first episode of this 10-episode series–and we’re mostly happy to see that Ash vs. Evil Dead has a finite future. We’d like to see something conclusive while enjoying Evil Dead mayhem one more time. And it’s also great to see more of Bruce Campbell, which is why we’re throwing in a clip that shows off Bruce delivering one-liners throughout his fine career. The return of Evil Dead is something to celebrate, but so is ten hours of Bruce Campbell as the world’s most offbeat leading man…
