There’s been a lot of talk about the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Dion Waiters over the weekend. Waiters wasn’t on the court last Wednesday night for the national anthem when the team was in Utah. He was quoted on Friday that he skipped the Nationa Anthem as part of his religion–but on Sunday, he said that the report was a “big misunderstanding” and that he was going through his “normal routine” while losing track of time.
There are many ways to look at that. Maybe Waiters did lose track of time and got out there too late or maybe it was some religious reason. Waiters took to Twitter Saturday morning saying that the quotes were incorrect from Friday night…
The thing is that if Waiters doesn’t want to be out there, he really doesn’t have to be. If his routine is to be in the locker room getting ready for the game, so be it. There will be plenty of backlash to that but it is a free country after all. Waiters appears to have got his message out this time around via social media and the Sunday conversation. This subject surely could come up again sooner than later though.
