Utah QB Travis Wilson completed a fine pass to wide receiver Kaelin Clay in yesterday’s game against Oregon–and then things went wrong. Kaelin Clay did a very impressive job of running 79 yards to get the ball to the 1-yard line. The idea in football, though, is to take the football past the 1-yard line to score what is commonly known as a touchdown. Kaelin Clay did not know this.
Having dropped the ball at the 1-yard line, Kaelin Clay proceeded to celebrate. Meanwhile, after some fumbling around, Oregon’s own Joe Walker managed to grab the football and run 100 yards all the way to the other side of the field to score a touchdown for his team. He did that by actually crossing the 1-yard line before dropping the football. Did we mention that’s how it’s done? Oregon knew, and won the game 51-27.
Anyway, we all learned a valuable life lesson from Kaelin Clay yesterday. Fun fact: Clay went to Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California, which was the same school as the Washington Redskin’s DeSean Jackson, who’s also known for this kind of thing. Maybe this is how they roll at Long Beach Polytechnic High School…
