The athletic teams of the country’s military institutions are held to a higher standard–so we don’t get many chances to gossip about the Army Black Knights and parties that get out of control. There was a recruitment party gone wrong earlier this season, though. Now we’re learning that 20 cadets had to be disciplined for promoting underage drinking, along with another incident that happened in January involving recruits. [file photo:Ezra Shaw/Getty]
Those West Point recruits were treated to a party, dinner with female cadets, cash from boosters, and VIP treatment on a party bus that included cheerleaders and a police escort. The academy self-reported itself to the NCAA in regards to the incident. The players involved however are expected to play when Army takes on Air Force on Nov. 1.
It sounds like things are back under control now but this is a black eye on the program especially when players on the women’s basketball and volleyball teams were used as dates for the recruits. There’s honestly no excuse for something like this happening, and Army did the right thing by handing out discipline. Hopefully, nothing like this happens again.
We’d also like to note that we’re using an old file photo, so don’t go thinking that any of the players pictured here had anything to do with the scandal. We don’t need any football players coming after us–especially the ones that have been trained to kill.
