[photo: Christian Petersen/Getty]It isn’t usual for players to call each other out on trying to injure someone–but Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is making that accusation toward Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict. That’s after Burfict made moves attempting to injure Olsen and Cam Newton after scoring touchdowns during Sunday’s 37-all tie.
Burfict wasn’t penalized after twisting the ankles of Olsen and Newton, but it was enough for Olsen to believe that Burfict was up to something. There is, of course, really no reason to be going after other players who are known to be injured. It doesn’t seem like the right thing to do and Olsen obviously grew sick of it.
Olsen says, “If the NFL wants to really say they care about guys’ safety, they’ve got to start putting guys out for weeks.” There is going to be a serious injury to somebody at one point or another sooner than later, and it could easily be a major star. The NFL will learn their lesson soon enough. The damage, however, could be irreversible.
