You know what Joe Strummer really loved? Socialism and expensive cars. Sadly, you can’t buy the former Clash frontman’s copy of Das Kapital. You can, however, put in a bid for Joe Strummer’s 1963 Chalfont Blue Ford Thunderbird. We are, in fact, talking about an original California double black-plate Bullet body T-bird. Or so we’re told.
And, to be fair, it was originally purchased by Strummer in 1987 for $4,200. We guess that we can’t be too snide about that–even if the car is being sold by The Beverly Hills Car Club, with a new and improved list price being hiked by the concept of supply and demand. You can bid on Joe’s car here. The last time we checked, the high bid was at $15,000. That’s still below the minimum reserve bid. You have until Thursday, August 21st to put together a collective to actually afford the car. That would also be Strummer’s 62nd birthday, if the rock star hadn’t passed away back in 2002–so start rocking some conspicuous consumerism in Joe’s honor. Or hold out to buy a used Volkswagen from an old member of Rage Against the Machine.
