Aspiring Buffalo Bills Owner Jon Bon Jovi Says That He Won't Move Team

The two leading candidates to buy the Buffalo Bills seem to be Jon Bon Jovi and Donald Trump, each fronting a different investment team. Bon Jovi has decided the time has come to make sure the fans in Buffalo knew that his group wants to keep the team in Buffalo. He wrote a letter that was published in the Buffalo News on Sunday, as his first public comments about his plan for the franchise. Here’s how it began…
Recently, there has been a lot of speculation about the future of the Buffalo Bills and questions surrounding the ownership group of which I am a part. Until now, we have not said anything publicly out of respect for Mr. Wilson, his family and the process they are undertaking to identify the right group to carry the franchise forward.
However, there has been a lot of conjecture, so we think it’s important to clarify our intentions to the fans of the team and people of Buffalo.
Our objective is simple: to carry on the legacy of Ralph Wilson and make the Bills successful in Buffalo.
To which the (currently) top-ranked response at the Buffalo News site is, “Get lost, you Jersey gel head.”
It still must bring some peace of mind to fans in Buffalo knowing that (at least, on paper) Bon Jovi wants to keep the team in Buffalo. The team is under a lease that keeps them in Buffalo through the 2022 season, anyway–but there would have been time to build a stadium in Toronto to move the team after that season if the new owners wanted to under an exception to break the lease for $28 million in 2020.
There are still some nervous Buffalo fans, of course. Hopefully, whoever buys the team will keep it in Buffalo. It’s the place for the team to be–and it sounds like Bon Jovi may be getting the point.
