Chelsea Baker Throws Batting Practice To Tampa Bay Rays

Chelsea Baker Tampa Bay Rays

Sports fans have seen pitchers baffle hitters for years with a knuckleball from the likes of Joe Niekro and Charlie Hough. The next generation may be represented by 17-year-old Chelsea Baker. The teenage wonder threw batting practice to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday, and showed that there’s potential  for her to be the first female to someday make it to the major leagues.

Baker hit Evan Longoria with one of her pitches, and pitcher David Price hit a line drive right back up the middle. Baker is still a talent to be watching for historical reasons. She’s a junior at Durant High School in Plant City, FL right now–and if she can continue to tweak her knuckleball, there’s no reason why some team won’t take a chance on her after she graduates high school. A shift may be coming to Major League Baseball. It may not happen tomorrow or next year, Baker could some day be making a run at a major league mound.
