The folks behind the Xbox One announced that they will offer a special bundle on their console that will come with a free copy of Titanfall, the exclusive EA shooter that’s bound to become their next signature game.
Microsoft announced that they will release the special console bundle on March 11th on the same day as the game’s release for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 and the “limited time” offer will retail for $499. That’s also currently the standard price for an Xbox One console without a free game. This represents a moderate but interesting price drop for the next-gen console pretty early in its sales timeline. Microsoft Marketing Vice President Yusuf Mehdi said in a released statement that they “wanted to do something special” to celebrate Titanfall’s release in the hopes that it would “encourage more of your friends to join you on day one for Titanfall on Xbox One.”
Basically, it means that they don’t like playing second fiddle to the PlayStation 4 in the console wars since Sony is currently beating them at the checkout counter with a console that’s around $100 cheaper. That’s not to diminish Titanfall‘s impact or worth as a game. The mech-robot FPS actually has a good chance of becoming a big hit given the buzz that Microsoft deftly gained by letting everyone with an Xbox One sign up for a free beta. At least it’s a sign that Microsoft realized their opening bid may have been a bit high, which is more than I can say for stubborn old Nintendo and their WiiU.
