A badass woman fighter, Asia Ramadan Antar, who became known as the ‘Kurdish Angelina Jolie,’ was killed fighting ISIS this week. Curious as to just how truly badass she was? The 22-year-old was among the highest ranks of the all-female Women’s Protection Units, which is a Kurdish group battling ISIS near Syria’s border with Turkey. A message on the ‘We Want Freedom for Kurdistan’ Facebook page said she was ‘martyred in a battle against Daesh.’
According to IFP News, Antar-who was one of the most renowned female Kurdish fighters- was killed in fierce clashes with ISIS in the Syrian border town of Jarabulus.
Antar was born in 1996, and joined the Kurdish YPG in 2014, when she was just 18 years old. She was born in Qamishli, a city in north-eastern Syria on the border with Turkey, and recruited into the Women’s Protection Units, which is an all-female Kurdish military organization who combats ISIS militants.
According to Daily Mail, Antar is said to have been involved in a number of key battles with ISIS in northern Syria before she was killed.
Sounds like one hell of a woman. May she rest in peace.
