ABOUT Sonia
University of Memphis, Sophomore
Why did you choose your school and what makes it better than the rest?
I chose my school for its proximity to my house, it’s affordable tuition, friendly people, great facilities, and the fact that it is situated in the business booming, historically rich, environmentally gorgeous, and activity filled city of Memphis. My school is better than the rest because of the close knit community you feel a part of when you are on campus. The teachers care about you and you have all the tools you need to be successful.
What kind of activities are you involved in? (sorority, theatre, clubs, etc)
I am in the Honors College at the University of Memphis. I was involved in Freshman Senate for the Student Government Association last year and that really shed some light on student problems on campus and also got me a lot more invested in the student life and overall experience here at the University of Memphis. This year, I am a team captain for the organization, Up Til Dawn, which raises money for St. Jude-as no child being treated there or family member ever has to pay any expenses. I am also joining Psi Chi which is an honor society for psychology students.
If you had to choose one social media to use for the year, what would it be and why?
Instagram, definitely. I love looking at people’s pictures and their lives through the Instagram interface. It is a smooth and beautiful interface, and which features such as, “Stories,” it almost replaces the need for Snapchat. It is also less cluttered than Twitter.
What’s your major/what are you thinking of majoring in?
My major is Psychology, and I am also double minor if in Child Development and Business Management.
Who’s the most famous graduate from your school?
Paxton Lynch played for the Memphis Tigers and after an astounded season 2 years ago, he is now a quarterback for the Denver Broncos in the NFL.
Do you have a favorite sports team?
The Memphis Tigers 🐯 100% Yeah, we may be the underdogs, but we are on the come up!
Which celebrity would you invite to a dinner party at your house?
Ellen DeGeneres. We would have so much fun with all that laughter and craziness. I don’t think she’d be all haughty or stuck up. Down to earth and chill is what she would be, I bet. It would be super fun having a dinner party with her.
What is your go to pre-game song?
The Memphis Fight Song!! FIGHT hey FIGHT hey for the blue and gray! Plus, probably the top 100 hits playlist.
