ABOUT Skyler

Louisiana State University, Sophomore

I love my college because…

I have a deep respect for the Baton Rouge community. I thought about going out of state for college, but honestly nothing compares to our southern hospitality. During tailgates everyone becomes one big family, sharing food, dancing, and cheering for our tigers! Not to mention, LSU has such a beautiful and diverse campus, along with an amazing educational program.

I really hate when…

someone wakes me up while I’m sleeping or napping. I’m a pretty heavy sleeper, so if you can wake me up I’m probably going to be grumpy for the rest of the day.

I major in…

Finance, and after graduation I hope to follow into my mother’s footsteps and become a financial advisor for Edward Jones.

My hometown is awesome because…

being from New Orleans, my favorite thing hands-down is Mardi Gras! Many other cities try to recreate it but it’s such a unique blend of culture and community. My parents always use it as an excuse to try local restaurants and go sight seeing in our city. This holiday is very special to me, my friends and my family.

At school, you can find me…

participating in the recruitment of LSU’s newest sorority, Alpha Delta Pi and I hope to become a part of that sisterhood.

The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…

Geology. It might sound nerdy, but it was really interesting to learn about the formation of Earth and how it still impacts events in present day.

My favorite late night study snack is…

sour cream and onion chips and fruit punch. I’m trying to cut junk food out my diet, so lately I’ve been eating chocolate covered almonds and iced green tea.

If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…

throw a 24 hour party with my friends and family. I would serve all my favorite foods, play my favorite music, and have my favorite movies playing.

If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…

the way people talk to each other. I notice way too often that people talk to each other without basic respect. It hurts my heart to see people be rude or mean to strangers without a good reason. Manners and being polite to others are very important to me.

If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…

that it’s okay to have a different opinion from the majority. If you protect your beliefs, people tend to respect you more. It’s not wrong to stay true to yourself.

I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…

I think it would be a great opportunity to be a part of something. I think it would make my community and my family proud. Also it would be an awesome way to show my school pride!
