University of Virginia, Sophomore
MY COLLEGE KICKS ASS BECAUSE…
I can wear sundresses and sun hats to class without getting weird stares.
THE MOST MEMORABLE THING I’VE DONE SINCE FRESHMAN YEAR IS…
Does finishing all of Game of Thrones in a week count? Just kidding (not completely). I’ve grown up so much in college and have had so many adventures. I wouldn’t be quite the same person I am today if I had not! One of my most memorable experiences I had in college is the heart-to-heart conversations I’ve had with some of my professors. They’ve all led such interesting and different lives; it’s wonderful to learn from their experiences. It’s a trivial thing to most people to genuinely talk to other people, but you can learn so much wisdom from the people around you.
I MAJOR IN…
Economics; I’m not sure yet! I enjoy business but I haven’t quite decided what exactly I want to do in the future.
AT SCHOOL, I’M INVOLVED IN…
I’m in Turkish Student Association (I’m originally from Turkey), Virginia Undergraduate Law Review, and Smart Women Securities. I also recently applied to intern at my local news station in the fall and an art museum on Grounds at UVA for the spring. I’m in very unrelated clubs because I’m currently trying to figure out what my passion really is.
IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?
Firenze! I’m currently taking Italian, and I would love to be able to further my language skills there! I’m also extremely interested in traveling to Japan and Singapore. I’ve made a lot of international friends at UVA from there, and their culture and cities look absolutely amazing!
WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE MISS COED 2016?
I want to accomplish things in life, regardless of what they are. I want to be able to say “I did that.” Maybe it’s a pride thing, but I haven’t done much with my life, and I want to be able to change that. College is a great place to start making something of yourself before you’re in the ‘real-world.’ And, on a lighter note, I think it’d be fun!
IF YOU COULD GIVE OUR READERS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Listen to your parents and friends. The people who love you will always give good advice. Even if it is not the best advice, it is always a skill to be able to analyze the perspectives of different people. Make a decision that’s right for you, but consider lots of different angles.
