ABOUT Marissa
University of Cincinnati, Junior (year 4/5)
Why did you choose your school and what makes it better than the rest?
I chose my school because of the amazing engineering/co-op program. UC created the cooperative education program, where DAAP, engineering and some business students are required to take several semesters off and work full time jobs. Many schools offer this program, but students must rearrange their curriculum in order to stay on track while also working as an intern. The great thing about UC is, not only are there multiple resources to aid in finding a job, but working is built into the curriculum. As an engineering student, my program is 5 years. After the first year in class, I alternate between work semesters and in-class semesters until I graduate. This gives me an incredible amount of real world experience AND it helps me pay my way through school. Many colleges are not that flexible and helpful when it comes to helping students’ lives after graduation, and UC’s involvement really makes it the #HottestCollegeInAmerica!
What kind of activities are you involved in? (sorority, theatre, clubs, etc)
I’m in a sorority, I volunteer with a group called A Voice For The Innocent and I try my best to go to Engineering Tribunal meetings to keep up to date with what’s going on in my college.
If you had to choose one social media to use for the year, what would it be and why?
Facebook, because of all of the connections I have there. Not only do I have all of my current friends, but also all of my family and old friends from when I was younger. It’s an extremely helpful resource when trying to coordinate plans, and it’s a good outlet for keeping updated on current events. Also, I LOVE animals and it’s the best place to see/post animal videos.
What’s your major/what are you thinking of majoring in?
Mechanical engineering
Who’s the most famous graduate from your school?
WIlliam Howard Taft
What do you know now that you wish you knew as a freshman?
It’s okay to not know what you’re doing. I was so afraid to start interning because I didn’t want to mess anything up, but my mentors are there to help me learn and fix my mistakes. It’s a learning experience and I’m not expected to know everything.
Do you have a favorite sports team?
Cincinnati Bearcats, of course
What is a nickname that your friends call you?
Mari (like Mar-E. Some people pronounce it like Marie but that’s not right!)
Which celebrity would you invite to a dinner party at your house?
BeyoncĂ© because she’s so amazing, talented and progressive. I think she would be super cool to talk to.
What is your go to pre-game song?
Booty Wurk by T-Pain
