Eastern Michigan University, Sophomore

I love my college because…

the staff and students are so personable and welcoming. Plus, the campus is SO beautiful. Things are new but old at the same time. Eastern has a great, old-time college feel. (My 4-year-old niece said she feels like she’s in Monsters University when she visits.)

I really hate when…

people are rude to others for literally no reason. I can’t stand when people think they’re better than everyone else.

I major in…

Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. I chose these majors because kids are my life! I aspire to be a kindergarten teacher one day. I currently work full time as a preschool teacher and I honestly couldn’t imagine my life any differently.

My hometown is awesome because…

it has the typical small town feel. If you walk into the local bars, you see your parents’ friends, your older siblings’ friends, and your peers. It’s the poster child for Friday night football games. My town thrives on our football traditions and our annual Pumpkinfest that takes place in the fall.

At school, you can find me…

rushing a sorority. It’s been my dream ever since I was a little girl to be in a sorority. Since I am a transfer student, I most definitely will be rushing in the fall. Before college, I was a cheerleader and a gymnast for 12 years.

The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…

a history class. We studied Colonial America, which is my favorite subject to talk about. But the main reason I enjoyed the class was because it was so self-based. Every student worked at their own speed and no one was pressured with deadlines. Because of that, everyone seemed to have managed to stay on task and get their work done. Strange how reverse psychology works.

If I could give my young self one piece of advice, I would say…

“Stop worrying about boys” to little 16-year old Madisyn. I had a pretty great high school experience. I was sociable and outgoing, made sure my grades didn’t fall below a B, and kept a part-time job. BUT, I was always so caught up in finding a boyfriend. I mean, I never found one so the worrying was pointless. Plus, being older I’ve realized that boys aren’t all that and a bag of chips. I enjoy my dog a lot more.

I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…

I think I embody what college is all about. I love my school and what it stands for, I love college and being able to be young. I want to show other college girls that you can have fun, get good grades, make money, and love God all at the same time. This is supposed to be the time of our lives and I don’t want to see my peers stressin’.
