ABOUT Lara
Tufts University, Junior
I love my college because….
of the quirky yet accepting culture. Tufts supports students who would like to pursue just about anything, whether it be researching artificial intelligence or organizing political protests. Looking from the outside, students are normal college kids who love to party and explore Boston. But once you get to know a Jumbo, you realize how intelligent and determined they are to receive the best education possible.
I major in…
Mechanical Engineering. Right now, I have an internship at Costco Corporate Office to practice my project management skills, because I feel the most successful as a leader. I hope to pursue a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering next and see where that takes me.
My hometown is awesome because…
the Greater Boston Area is the best! I have friends and connections with people from several universities in this area. During the school year, I believe that the majority of Boston must be college students. Being an athlete in this area is perfect as well. I never have to travel more than a couple of hours to compete against several schools.
At school, you can find me…
spending 35+ hours a week practicing and racing for the Varsity Sailing team. During downtime at the boat house, I do research on a remote controlled boat, which the Robotic Sailing Team is making autonomous. Beyond that, I am the Academic Chair for Tufts’ coed fraternity, ATO of Massachusetts (this is a social frat, not a business frat, so yes, we host parties just like the rest of Greek life). Next semester, I am joining our burlesque dance troupe. I’m so excited to celebrate body positivity in a fun and sexy way!
My ideal first date would be…
sushi, which must be involved. I need to know if my date is willing to eat my favorite food!
My favorite late night study snack is definitely…
peanut or almond butter. With anything… or not with anything! The protein fills you up.
If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…
surround myself with my family, my team, and my friends. They all inspire me, and I would like to let them know that.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
to wave a wand and make all of the negative and prejudiced media disappear.
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
I would like to represent the select few of us who are female athletes and nerds at the same time. I would hope to let them know that you can do it, you know your limits, and it is possible to challenge those limits and succeed. We CAN be leaders in male-dominated atmospheres.
