ABOUT Jessica
Colorado State University, Freshman
I love my college because…
it had a very welcoming and unique feel. When I was given a tour of campus, I felt that this was a place that I could truly be myself and not have to worry about having to fit in.
I really hate when…
people make assumptions about others without getting to know them. I believe that everyone should be given a chance to prove themselves and that no one should be judged based on preconceived notions.
I major in…
Psychology and minor in Leadership. After graduating from CSU, I hope to continue my studies in a graduate program and eventually a PhD program. After all of this, I hope to work with PTSD in the military and research better treatment regimens to help men and women of the military who have experienced tragedies while deployed.
My hometown is awesome because…
there are plenty of people from different backgrounds, and I never had to worry about being judged because of my race.
At school, you can find me…
in a sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta on campus and I am also a part of the President’s Leadership Program.
The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…
PSY 100, probably because I’m a Psych major and I may be a little biased. I like this class mainly because I like to learn about why people act a certain way and why they have certain thoughts.
My ideal first date would be…
dinner and movie. Preferably Italian food and a romantic comedy.
My favorite late night study snack is…
salted caramel popcorn.
If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…
spend them with my closest friends and my family doing something fun like going to the beach.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
change the amount of discrimination against people because of their skin color, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic state. I believe it is unfair to discriminate against anyone in any way, but I feel that these are most common in the world today.
If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…
to sweat the small things. I spent too much time worrying about what people would think of me, or how my ACT score wasn’t good enough, or about missing a football game for being sick. I thought that these things would heavily influence the person I am today, but I have realized that these things do not define who I am.
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
I think it will not only help build my own self-confidence, but help build the confidence of others who may be in my shoes of not thinking they are good enough for programs such as this.
