Western Michigan University, Freshman

I love my college because…

right away, I got the feeling that it was going to be my perfect home away from home. Western is what I like to refer to as a ‘small big school.’ It’s still a large public university with a lot of awesome students, but class sizes are never overwhelmingly big and campus isn’t a complete maze. I love it because I still get that ‘real college experience’ without getting lost in the system. Most people outside of Michigan have never even heard of WMU, and I wish we had some more exposure because we are seriously the best ever. I may be a little biased just because I’m sort of, kind of obsessed with my school, but Western really does have SO much to offer that I just want the whole world to know. Go Broncos!!

I really hate when…

I’m trying to have a conversation with someone but they are incapable of talking about anything but themselves! Let’s be real; that’s not even a conversation anymore, that’s an ‘all about me’ presentation.

I major in…

Public Relations with a minor in Advertising and Promotion. Although I am not entirely sure what I want to do career wise, my goal is some kind of creative position where I can collaborate with others to make things happen! Social media and networking also fascinates me, so some kind of social media coordinator position would be awesome as well!

My hometown is awesome because…

of how absolutely tiny it is. In fact, my hometown isn’t even technically considered a town because we’re so small; we’re actually termed a ‘village.’ I feel so medieval telling people I’m from a village. I just love the tight-knit community that comes from growing up in a small town. No matter what, it’s always comforting to know that your neighbors will have your back when you need it most. I am proud of my small town, two lane roads and all.

At school, you can find me…

as a new member of my sorority, Delta Zeta. I just joined my sorority, and I so adore Greek life. I am so excited to get involved with all of the things Greek life has to offer throughout my years at college, especially philanthropy events! I also just applied to be a big sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, which has always been a dream of mine!

My ideal first date would be…

something super simple like a sunset trip to a beach or hanging out in a park. I think for the first date, simplicity is key so that we can see if we vibe together without distractions! I also always feel guilty whenever my date pays for me, especially on the first date when I barely know him! When it comes to the first date, minimal expenses without distractions are the way to win my heart.

My favorite late night study snack is…

celery sticks and peanut butter; you can never go wrong. And if I happen to be out of celery sticks, sometimes I shamelessly eat peanut butter off the spoon…but everyone does that, right?

If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…

to make everyone a little bit more tolerant of each other. It seems that nowadays no one knows how to respect each other’s differences in opinions. I think we all need a big dose of acceptance and love (cheesy, but true).

If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…

to form relationships with the goal of forming real connections with people, not for popularity. I think that the relationships we form and what we do with them are what life is really all about. It’s so important to expose yourself to all sorts of diverse people because that expands your mind, helps you grow, and gives you lifelong genuine friends. Cliques are absolute nonsense, and I’d make sure to tell my high school self that!

I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…

I think it would give me an awesome platform to show my love for Western Michigan University in a great way. Combining school spirit and social networking is seriously me in a nutshell, so I think I’d be perfect for the position. I’d love to have the opportunity to put WMU on the map and show everyone just how fabulous we are over here in Kalamazoo, Michigan!
