University at Buffalo, Freshman

I love my college because….

overall, I absolutely love the city of Buffalo, especially the fact that it’s an amazing sports town. I love all of the people in it, and it was the perfect distance from my hometown, so I am able to be independent but I can still easily come home if it’s ever necessary. My actual school has amazing academic programs with connections and opportunities all throughout Buffalo and NYS, amazing study abroad opportunities, constant activities happening around campus, tons of D1 sports, clubs, and intramural athletics, and just everything I could ever want. Most importantly, all of the people I’ve met here truly make it feel like the perfect home for me.

I major in…

Biology/Pre-Med, and I hope to continue on into medical school and potentially work in the field of oncology (the study and treatment of cancer), maybe with a focus in pediatric oncology.

My hometown is awesome because…

Syracuse is so close-knit, and being in Upstate NY, we get all four seasons, so I get to go apple picking and watch football games in the fall, ski and watch hockey games in the winter, and enjoy our beautiful state parks and hometown baseball team in the spring and summer.

At school, you can find me…

currently involved/planning on being involved in UB’s Outdoor Adventure Club, Ski/Snowboarding Club, and various Pre-Health organizations around campus.

The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…

Shakespeare Seminar, which focuses on Hamlet because it gives me a break from scientific/mathematical thinking and allows me to really connect with my professor and classmates and have some fun analyzing and acting out the play.

My favorite late night study snack is…

Anything from Starbucks. You also can’t go wrong with Nutella or ramen, of course.

If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…

eliminate illness and suffering; I would do it in a heartbeat. I hope to be able to help that as much as possible in the future.

If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…

always be open to every new person and opportunity that comes your way.

I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…

I just think it would be a great way to give my school the recognition that I think it deserves and maybe get a few readers to look into the school and fall in love with it as much as I have. Go Bulls!!
