ABOUT Alora
Piedmont College, Sophomore
I love my college because….
Mostly, I did not choose Piedmont College, it found me. I had waited a year after graduation to find the perfect school for myself. I live in Palm Harbor, Florida and during a tournament in Miami, I was approached by Piedmont College to play soccer for them. A month later, I traveled eight hours to Demorest, Georgia and fell in love with the campus. The amazing facilities, the perfectly sized classrooms for me, and how in touch I would be with the teachers, students, and activities around the school, were all factors in my decision. Piedmont is better than any other college because it’s small enough to feel like home, but I still get to party like it’s a big school.
I really hate when…
I tell my friends about a good song that I’ve heard and they don’t appreciate it until eight months later when it’s being over-played on the radio.
My hometown is awesome because…
my hometown is actually Ortonville, MI. I moved to Palm Harbor when I was 17 and missed home terribly. What I miss the most is being able to see my best friend, Gabrielle, more than just three times a year. I’ve been friends with her since fifth grade and she’s a perfect human being.
At school, you can find me…
in the soccer program here at Piedmont College. We won our regular season ending 17-1-1 and went on to Nationals. We are one of the most successful organizations on campus and continue to be one of the best.
The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…
definitely my English class where we watch horror films and read horror novels and discuss them. I’m a huge horror fan, and I love it!
My ideal first date would be…
taking me to an animal shelter or somewhere where I can pet puppies. I am obsessed with dogs and animals so a zoo or even just taking a dog for a walk and maybe some ice cream would leave me a very happy girl.
My favorite late night study snack is definitely…
dark chocolate. Especially chocolate covered pretzels. They keep me energized and all my hanger goes away.
If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…
travel if I could, but with my family. I would play with dogs, eat everything I’ve ever wanted to eat, and finally skydive. I would like as fully as I could until I simply couldn’t. I would go to raves, I would explore gardens, and I would do everything I could to die happily.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
the world’s thinking. I would instill equality and shared responsibility. I would hope to erase sexism, racism, and any other form of discrimination. If there were no negative opinions and oppression ceased to exist, I think life would just be a lot easier and happier.
If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…
that no one saw me slip in the cafeteria when I was on crutches. I would tell myself to avoid boys I know now were just a waste of my time and to spend more time appreciating my dog, who I lost when I was 16.
