The Houston Astros and Washington Nationals are set to officially kickoff the World Series on Tuesday, October 22 at Minute Maid Park. Washington will be rolling with Max Scherzer at the mound, while the Astros will be relying on the arm of ace Gerrit Cole.
While Cole has been on fire throughout the postseason, the Nationals have taken a more modest approach by relying on bullpen appearances throughout the NLDS and NLCS.
Cole hopes to keep his read hot streak rolling.
“I personally am a big fan of starting pitching,” he said, via ESPN.com. “I grew up wanting to become a starting pitcher, and I’m a starting pitcher now. And there are a lot of really good starting pitchers on the other side of the field, guys that kind of emulate the role in terms of longevity, durability, creativeness, tenacity, grit.
“And so just a pleasure to share the field with them on the greatest stage at this point. And best of luck to them.”
The Astros enter Tuesday night’s game as slight -195 favorites.
