Kentucky Fried Chicken may be about to change the game. KFC made an announcement that makes them the first-ever fast rood restaurant chain to offer the evergrowing trend of plant-based food. According to the chain, KFC is set to test out a plant-based fried chicken.
The test — which features faux chicken from Beyond Meats — will begin on Tuesday, August 27.
Beyond Meat also has partnerships with Carl’s Jr., Del Taco, and Dunkin’.
“KFC Beyond Fried Chicken is so delicious, our customers will find it difficult to tell that it’s plant-based,” Kevin Hochman, president and chief concept officer for KFC U.S., said in a statement. “I think we’ve all heard ‘it tastes like chicken’ — well our customers are going to be amazed and say, ‘It tastes like Kentucky Fried Chicken!’”
The chicken will be sold as nuggets or boneless wings — does anyone know the difference between those two? The answer: price. If you order nuggets, you will get four for $1.99, if you order wings, you will get six for $6.
Anyways, the chicken promises that it will offer “the finger lickin’ good fried chicken flavor” that Kentucky Fried Chicken fans have grown to love and they will come with either Nashville Hot, Buffalo, or Honey BBQ sauce. Unfortunately, they are only available in one location.
The plant-based fried chicken will only be available at KFC’s Cobb Parkway location near SunTrust Park in Smyrna, Georgia. If you are in the area, you can get a free sample between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. with the purchase of any other order. If you’re wondering whether the plant-based chicken will eventually be available in your area, Kentucky Fried Chicken says that “feedback from the Atlanta test will be considered as KFC evaluates a broader test or potential national rollout.”
Judging by the growing trend of plant-based products, we’d have to assume a larger launch is coming soon.
