While Tormund survived climbing the Wall in season 3, the Battle at Castle Black in season 4, Hardhome in season 5, the Battle of the Bastards in season 6, the Battle Beyond the Wall in season 7, and the Battle of Winterfell in season 8, it appears that everyone’s favorite red-bearded Wildling may have swung his final sword at the side of Jon Snow.
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ‘GAME OF THRONES‘ SEASON 8 WILL FOLLOW AFTER THE GIFs.
Despite being singled out as a prime candidate for death for YEARS, Tormund somehow, someway, survived all of the major battles he’s been involved in since his introduction way back in season 3.
And while Tormund may be one of Jon Snow’s most loyal companions, he won’t be joining him at the Battle of King’s Landing, as the de-facto Wildling leader has decided he wants to take the Free Folk back north beyond the wall.
But because Tormund is Tormund, he gave it one last go with Brienne of Tarth — or as he calls her, “the big woman” — during the post-Great War celebration at Winterfell, and ultimately gets his heartbroken, sending Twitter into perhaps it’s final Tormund-related meltdown.
I just want to say-
Tormund would NEVER.N

Whether it be blaming his soiled pants on others, drinking from what appears to be an elephant tusk, or constantly pursing Brienne of Tarh, there’s no question that Tormund developed into one of the show’s primary sources of comic relief, and for that, we’ll always miss him.
The eighth and climactic season of Game of Thrones, the iconic and record-setting HBO fantasy drama that first premiered in April 2011, will air its final episode on Sunday, May 19.
