UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is no stranger to controversy. Ahead of his most recent fight against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232, Jones failed a drug test which resulted in the Ultimate Fighting Championship relocating its event from Las Vegas to Inglewood, California.
But while Jones tested positive for a steroid metabolite, he will reportedly not be punished.
California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster addressed the situation in a recent talk with Bleacher Report.
“I spoke with the scientists,” Foster said. “They stand by their original statement. Nothing has changed. We’ve already punished Jon Jones for the M3 metabolite, which is a long-term metabolite. There’s no grounds to charge somebody twice for the same violation.”
After the initial red flag, Jones passed multiple drug tests that showed the metabolite was no longer present in his bloodstream.
