Two people were injured this past Sunday afternoon during a shooting at Fallon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fallon Nevada. At least one of the victims was seriously hurt and needed to be taken to a local hospital.
According to Kolo TV, two people were injured at the church, which is located on Richards Street. At least one of the victims was hurt seriously enough to be transported to the hospital, although his condition was not otherwise made available. It has been said that the shooting took place in the church in front of the congregation. According to Fox Reno, city spokeswoman Kaitlin Ritchie also confirmed that the shooting had taken place at the Mormon church.
A suspect behind the shooting is believed to be in police custody. At this time, officials have not released the names of the suspect or the two victims.
One person died from the shooting
According to Kolo TV, one of the victims passed away from injuries relating to the shooting. The other victim had a leg injury. At this time, officials wanted to wait until the victims’ families were notified of what happened before they release their names to the public.
The suspect was later identified by officials as John Kelley O’Connor, who is believed to have entered the church and fired shots. Fallon Police Chief Kevin Gehman released the following statement concerning the shooting:
“It’s really too early to understand the motive”
Eric Hawkins, director, of media relations for the LDS church in Salt Lake City, also released the following statement:
“We express our love to those in this congregation and our prayers for the victims and their families. Local leaders are ministering to them at this time.”
Fallon Mayor Ken Tedford also released the following message:
“Our hearts go out to family members of those who have lost someone and those who were in the church today where the tragedy occurred.”
